Many users of SeaGIS software make measurements directly from movie sequences. Making measurements directly from movie sequences is convenient, however the movie files can be large and pose a significant data storage issue. Movie to JPEG conversion is available with CAL, PhotoMeasure and TransectMeasure. It allows projects based around movie files to be converted to projects based around JPEG images. The user makes measurements directly from movie files. Once measurement is complete an automatic process extracts from the movie files all frames where measurements have been made, and saves those frames in JPEG format. A new measurement file is produced relating the measurements to the new JPEG images. Once this process has been carried out the original movie files can be deleted and a record of all measurements is maintained through the JPEG images. Application of Movie to JPEG conversion typically gives data compression of better than 98% of the original movie file size. |
